Kayak Horseshoe Bend

Want to kayak into the waterside of Antelope Canyon? Hope you’re in good shape. According to the travel bloggers like MyPerfectItinerary.com, “the majority of the kayaking route is through a wake zone in Lake Powell. There are boats, wakeboards, and jet skis flying past you. The waves are intense (think kayaking in the ocean) and will make you feel like your kayak is about to tip over at times! It is also a very strenuous kayak because on the way back to the marina you will be paddling through the waves AND upstream.” If this already has you rethinking your plans, the good news is you can still enjoy a kayak experience on your Page, AZ, vacation: in Horseshoe Bend!

Join Kayak Horseshoe Bend and Lees Ferry Anglers for a more active and up-close water activity than the Horseshoe Bend Float Trip. First, you self-drive to Lees Ferry, approximately 1 hour from Page, AZ. Bring your own paddle craft, or rent a single or tandem kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) from Kayak Horseshoe Bend. You’ll travel up the last remaining intact stretch of beautiful Glen Canyon, 15 miles on the Colorado River in a custom backhaul boat piloted by a US Coast Guard Certified Captain. Drop off at the base of the Glen Canyon Dam for a full day’s adventure. If you’re short on time, you can opt to set out from Horseshoe Bend, Petroglyph Beach, or anywhere else between the dam and Lees Ferry.

From there, the day is all yours! Enjoy a leisurely paddle back to Lees Ferry, absorbing every magical sight and sound (including the silence) you’ll encounter. No need to fear getting tossed about in the rapids; this calm, mellow stretch of the Colorado River is all smooth sailing, and all downriver, so this is a great option for first-time kayakers. Listen for the distinctive call of a canyon wren or the shriek of a hawk in pursuit of a fish. Wild horses, big horn sheep, herons, egrets, and even a California condor might show up. If you want to take a swim, you can, but be warned: the water is cold! Fly-fishing fans are welcome to bring their rod and reel and Arizona fishing license; this area of the Colorado River is a world-renowned sport fishing destination! Those with the time, interest, and appropriate provisions can set up camp in one of 5 first-come, first-served campsites on the riverbank, including Horseshoe Bend itself, no permit required.

If you are in the area you owe it to yourself to stop and take a look.

Wow, this is by far the most spectacular view you’ve ever seen. I’ve been to the grand canyon and it is beautiful but Horseshoe bend is really one of the world wonders.

This is a quick experience. Just park your car in the lot, hike over a hill and head to the sight. It’s beautiful. But… be careful! There is no fence, ledge or guard at the edge.
